Five years on from its debut on streaming platform Netflix, Bridgerton continues to draw in huge audiences with its Regency storytelling, glamorous costumes and orchestral soundtracks. After two (very long) years, season 3 was finally released in spring 2024 – so what’s the story with the next instalment? Here’s absolutely everything there is to know about Bridgerton season 4.

Will There Be Season 4 Of Bridgerton?
Yes, season 4 of Bridgerton is on its way. Netflix confirmed the upcoming season all the way back in April 2021, with a now-deleted Instagram post penned by Lady Whistledown reading: ‘Esteemed members of the Ton, It seems we have a rather special announcement. Bridgerton shall return for seasons three and four. This author shall have to purchase more ink…’

What Will Happen?
Bridgerton season 4 will centre on Benedict (Luke Thompson) and his love match Sophie (Yerin Ha). Emerging onto the marriage mart and attending his family’s famed masquerade ball, the second-eldest Bridgerton bachelor spots a mysterious Lady in Silver. Meet Sophie: determined, captivating, resourceful – and set to steal the bohemian lone wolf’s heart.
With Sophie secretly a maid, fans can expect a twist on the classic Cinderella story, and we’re told Bridgerton season 4 will take more of a peek into the inner workings of Mayfair’s high-class households. ‘You remember being told those stories as a child — the magic and the romance of them,’ our leading man teases. ‘It’s really exciting to have that weaved into the world that we know of Bridgerton… It’s such a great story, but it’s also, I hope, really relatable.’
Elsewhere, the tension between Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) has been eased, with the duo best friends once more – as well as sisters. ‘They’re more bonded than ever!’ says showrunner Jess Brownell. ;Their trials and tribulations last season have added new depth to their friendship, and we’re excited for viewers to see how their relationship looks now that they’ve each grown up a little.’
Meanwhile, there are some fresh faces in the ton: Rosamund Li (Michelle Mao) and Posy Li (Isabella Wei), both making their debut on the marriage mart, coached by determined mother Araminta Gun (Katie Leung).
Is There A Trailer?
No trailer per se, but we do have a sneak peek. Watch it below.
Who Will Star?
Expect the usual suspects, plus some fresh faces, including one very special newcomer: Yerin Ha as this season’s leading lady, Sophie. Meanwhile, the belle of season 3, Nicola Coughlan, will return to the Ton – as will her husband, Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). Season 2’s protagonists will also return: Simon Ashley as Kate and Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton. But if you were hopeful for the return of season 1’s breakout stars, Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor, we are sad to report they won’t being showing their faces around the Ton in season 4.

Which Bridgerton Will Be The Focus Next?
In Julia Quinn’s novels, book three (An Offer from a Gentleman) is about Benedict, but Bridgerton season 3 focussed on his younger brother Colin, instead (tracing the events of book four, Romancing Mister Bridgerton). Benedict’s season, therefore, is the most natural follow-up to Colin’s story.
But where does this leave Eloise? Well, if season 5 puts the spotlight on Eloise, we will be right back on track with Quinn’s books: book five, To Sir Phillip, With Love, tells the reluctant-to-wed Bridgerton sister’s story.
The show’s executive producer Shonda Rhimes has been very vocal about each member of the Bridgerton family getting their own main character moment. ‘Everybody’s going to have a main arc every season,’ Rhimes told Town & Country. ‘There’s going to be one for each one of the Bridgertons. We laid out the story in a way that felt right and necessary for us. And, eventually, every last one of those Bridgertons is going to have a love story.’
And what about Francesca? Francesca’s Bridgerton season 3 plot features in book six (When He Was Wicked) as a flashback. Therefore, we think the rest of her story won’t be the subject of season 4, but we will still see her around the Ton (when she’s not tending to her new Scottish estate) before she returns to the fore in season 6.
That leaves Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) and Gregory (Will Tilston), who are the subjects of books seven (It’s In His Kiss) and eight (On the Way to the Wedding) respectively. The latest from Netflix is that seasons 5 and 6 of the TV adaptation are definitely happening – but no news just yet on seasons 7 and 8.

Will There Be Another Spin-Off?
Never say never. Between seasons 2 and 3 of Bridgerton, fans were treated a surprise spin-off series following the life of a young Queen Charlotte. In Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, we got to know some of the older members of the ton from the perspective of their youth – and many seemingly have stories that weren’t quite yet finished. We wouldn’t be surprised to see more prequels in the future. (Our bets are on Violet Bridgerton.)
Release Date
Bridgerton season 4 will air in 2026. We’re predicting a New Year’s Day (1 January 2026) release. The season will be made up of eight episodes.
